Why time alone? For many moms, including myself, this will probably be the ONLY time until bedtime (and even after “bedtime” during the millionth “I need to go potty”…”I am thirsty”...”Can you tuck me in again?”...”I am hungry”...you get it…) you will have to focus on YOU. This may seem IMPOSSIBLE, especially for those of you with young babies and toddlers so the best way I have found is to create a new routine of waking up an hour earlier. How can you do this and get less sleep? You do not have to! Waking up an hour earlier means going to bed an hour earlier as well. Getting enough sleep is key for starting your day with the energy you will need to chase after your little ones and achieve your high level goals one day at a time! How much time do you need alone? You do not need much, so whether you have 5 minutes or an hour this time is precious and can be used to set a positive tone for the rest of your day. What do I do during this time? Sit in silence, read a book, meditate, visualize, dream, pray, do whatever YOU can do to be mindful in the present moment. Leave planning, checklists, to dos, worries, and even goal setting out of your mind. For however many minutes you can devote, focus on your breath and/or your thoughts allowing them to come and go without judgement. Be aware of how your body feels or choose to watch the sunrise. There are endless options, the main point is to be present, be there for yourself, be positive, relax, and create this amazing rhythm that every person should give this gift to themselves every single day.
